This game was created in 72 hours for the Ludum Dare Jam which had the theme of "Limited Space". Click that "View submission" button at the top of the page if you'd like to see it.

While exploring space, you discovered the edge of the universe! Worse yet, you quickly realize it's shrinking, and space is... acting up around here. Asteroids and debris are flying everywhere and space itself is assaulting you with wacky gravity and solar flares, but those aren't quite as bad as the literal assault from other spaceships as they race to escape. Oh, and your crew isn't taking this well, and managing them is nearly impossible...

In Space, No One Can Hear You EXPLODE is a roguelike survival game in which you're managing the energy you get per day (represented by dice) to handle threats, repair your ship, and get damaged more while racing toward the nearest warp gate. Just remember: all that matters is that your reactor makes it, the rest of the ship can fall apart, it's fine. You just won't get the dice-manipulation abilities of those destroyed rooms, and you'll be much more likely to take even more damage.

Gamedev blogging and postmortem

I blog about my game development on Patreon and wrote a piece about In Space, No One Can Hear You EXPLODE! that covers:

  • ✨ The game's origins as Stellar Setback when it was created for a tabletop 18-card contest
  • ✨ The steps between the original and where it ended up, including a rather huge misstep that almost made me give up
  • ✨ The lessons I learned
  • ✨ The future of the game
  • ✨ Photos and images from the design journey
  • ✨ And more!

You can find all of my Ludum Dare tagged posts here. And if you follow us there (it's free but you'll need an account, no card needed or anything though) you'll get notified when new posts go live (like the postmortem if it's not out when you read this!).

Special thanks

I wanted to give a huge special thanks to Angel, my partner in gamedev and life, for playtesting and proofing everything. Plus she came up with that epic animated logo (my original is the one on Screentop.gg, and she made it way more awesome). She's 1/2 of Beth and Angel Make Games with me (and she put together a lot of this page for me!).

I also wanted to give a bunch of thanks to Rochelle, one of my best friends. Not only did she catch two issues (a "subtracting 1 from a 6 turns it into a 6" typo and also I'd forgotten to upload any files to Itch and she caught the mistake lol), she's supportive as heck. You can find her awesome games here on Itch at Warped Board Games, and you should! :D
