Rules Variants!

Herdle is ummmm... REALLY late to getting fixed. I've spent the last several months living up to a bunch of promises and growing as a person, and I'm finally getting to a place where I can keep my word about things and work toward stuff! Woohoo!

Anyway, two awesome people (Brook —a friend of mine— and a gal named Nola) told me about different ways they play the game. Each was surprisingly unique but easy to implement: Brook breaks the results into the connected pieces and then places them individually, and Nola and her family stack matching colors when they want to.

Each of these methods is really cool, and it was my pleasure to get permission from both to include them as official variants in the game!

When I first released Herdle, it was a quick lil thing I figured I'd never touch again. I didn't even get to playtest it lol, but there was a Wordle jam ending soon and this was the first thing that came to mind. It was lacking the depth I wanted, but without a fix in mind I just got it together and released it. Thanks to Brook and Nola, I'm excited to playtest these myself and see what can be made of it all, and the fact they did this (months ago...) really revitalized my love for this game.

There are still a few updates I'll be making to this game. I'm not sure when I'll get to these things, but I promise I will:

  • Further playtesting!
  • Creating a low-ink version of everything
  • Creating a printable deck of cards that can be printed and used to play the game AND/OR a results table that uses a standard deck of cards

And, with all of that said, if you have a preferred variant or ruleset for this game, or any other questions, comments, etc, please let me know!
