When I was a kid, we'd go to Toys R Us for video games. They carried NES and then SNES titles, and it was so magical exploring the aisles, checking out the game boxes, and choosing one. Reading the manual on the way home or at a restaurant (or both) is something I'll never forget loving, even though my memory is awful 🤣

This zine is a celebration of that feeling, that exploration and discovery, and aiming to discover it elsewhere in life.

How Do I Fold It Though?

This video is a great example of how to fold an 8-page zine!

It was a magical time period. I loved the thrill of discovering a game I'd never seen in a magazine or anywhere. I'm glad someone else loved to just get lost in those instruction manuals. It was like being invited into a completely different world.

Oh my goodness, yes, exactly! So many games never got covered in a magazine, and I didn't get all the magazines so there were loads that probably were in one but I discovered on store shelves.

I'm glad someone else loved it too! And it's so lovely to meet you, thank you for the comment :D

i can feel this. What a great joy for such a small text or picture, so many dreams and expectations with physical stuff (manuals, books, toys, whatever had a box before being now available as digital items…)

Thanks for this cute zine ✨

You're so welcome, and thank YOU for such amazing words :D Yes, absolutely, the physicality of tabletop is what brought me over from making video games actually... even if everything I make is minimally tactile 🤣🤣🤣 You really nailed exactly what I was going for with that loss of physicality

I love this so much, esp the art on the back page showing the game cartridge. I really miss game manuals. They provided so much--like you say--not just about the game, but that feeling of something special.

Aaaaaawwwwwwww thank you Julie!!!! I couldn't resist touching  on Dragon Warrior lol, the original was one of my first RPGs, if not the very first. And yes!!! The manuals were always so cool and fun. Goodness, remember when we could be satisfied reading soap bottles rather than on our phones 24/7?
