This Costume of Mine explores my costume (the way I express myself as a trans woman) and my mask (how I express myself while suffering from bouts of bipolar). It's a perzine that dives into the emotions, thoughts, and struggles I have with both, as well as aligning my authentic self with these things tugging at me.

I also made a Designer's Notes edition that goes into far more detail because 8 mini pages weren't enough lol. I'm still proud of what I made in the original zine, but I wanted to dive deeper.

Mini Zine July 2024

This 8-page pocket-sized zine was written for the #minizinejuly24 challenge from Blancisthecreative on instagram. The prompt for July 11 - 15 is Before & After. "Create a mini zine that shows a before and after of something."

How Do I Fold It Though?

This video is a great example of how to fold an 8-page zine!

im trans and i also struggle being bipolar. after a lot of similar internal debate... i think probably the joy of gender autonomy and transness is real. mania makes it hard to acknowledge dysphoria, and when depressed the euphoria that gender affirmation brings would suddenly go away. then i feel invalid for not feeling dysphoric-- complex relatable stuff in this zine.

YES! OMG one of the biggest, most powerful things I heard was that originally, the test for whether someone "is actually trans" was dysphoria. Then they discovered a better test is whether there's euphoria when using the proper name/pronouns/etc. That the new test was able to validate and encapsulate far more people. And all of that, of course, is allowing others to label people anyway lol but still

I'm so glad you could relate! And yes, my goodness, mania and just generally throwing myself into my work kinda shove dysphoria and all of my frustrations in life to the side, where they slowly pile up and jump out of the corner like "SURPRISE!" when I settle down.

Thank you so much for your comment, and it's lovely to meet you! 🧡
