That's genius! I thought all the pages would be cut individually and then bound together using either staples or glue, but this method shows how to keep the 8.5 x 11 sheet intact without the need for either. That's a really clever method!
There are zines that get a bit more detailed and are sewn or stapled, but I love the mini zine for the reasons you mentioned. It is a great introductory format to get started with because it's just a standard piece of paper. I think the most cleaver is someone can get a whole 16-pages from one sheet of paper. The pages are small, but it sure makes for a cute tiny little zine.
